In November 1993, we opened our first waste transfer station which involved recovering materials from our own skip waste before sending the residue to landfill. Then in February 2007, we opened the first cell of what is now Milegate Landfill Site, accepting inert and non-hazardous waste. In 2016 we installed a new MRF recycling plant for Commercial and Industrial (C&I) as well as Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste streams. This has helped us increase our recycling rates to 90%, maximising the recovery of cardboard, wood, scrap metal, hardcore materials, soils and plastic.
